On Sunday, June 5, the Sunday School held its graduation and awards ceremony.
Sunday School Superintendent Barbara Firth commenced the celebration by expressing gratitude to the Sunday School teachers and substitute teachers, giving them certificates for their work with St. George’s children and teens throughout the 2015-16 school year.
The teacher for each grade level then presented his/her students with certificates.
Our seminarian Nick reminded parishioners that our Teens will be participating in the upcoming Parish Life Conference, especially the Bible Bowl, and we should support them, and the Conference. (note: St. George is hosting the Conference this year; more info here)
The Larry Erban Scholarship was presented by Kristen Kraunelis, Larry’s niece. Awarded annually to a graduating high school student, the Scholarship is in its 39th year. This year, the Scholarship was given to 2016 Andover High graduate Nikki Keamy, who will be attending St. Anselm College in the Fall.
The Yvonne Keamy Scholarship was presented by Barbara Firth, and this award is given annually to a college student who has completed his/her first year of college. This year’s recipient was George Scopelites, who is attending UMass Lowell.
Barbara Firth announced that she is retiring as Superintendent. She introduced St. George’s next Sunday School Superintendent, Nisrene Pelland.
Fr. Ed concluded the ceremony by thanking the teachers, students, parents (who make sure their children are at Sunday School on time), and Barbara for her years of service as Superintendent.
The Sunday School teachers and parents put on a wonderful luncheon for the parishioners following the graduation.
