On June 11, St. George Orthodox Church hosted the Pre-conference events that serve as a precursor to the 78th Parish Life Conference, to be held on June 25.
A gallery of the day’s events is available here.
The day began with the Creative Arts Festival, where works from the youth of our diocesan parishes were displayed. Saliba Hall was the place to be, as judges viewed each project and determined the winners for various grade levels.
Next in the Church was the Oratorical, where 5 teens (3 in the junior division, 2 in the senior division) delivered prepared speeches on the conference theme, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
Parish leaders and organization heads gathered for lunch and the Diocesan Assembly, back in Saliba Hall. Over 120 members of our parishes were present to hear Bishop John and various representatives update the parishes on the works of the Archdiocese and Diocese. Richard Robbat led attendees on planning the focus of the Diocese, bringing copious notes for the Mission Council to compile and provide feedback to the parishes.
Following the Assembly, the Order of St. Ignatius, Teen Soyo and AOCWNA met separately in the Church, Saliba Hall and Founders Room to discuss the past year and plan activities for the coming year.
The parishes will next meet during the June 25 conference for Liturgy, Awards Lunch, Keynote Address, Workshops, and Bible Bowl. The busy day will conclude with a Family Dinner and Dance in the evening.
